SME staff visits gold mineThe SME staff recently visited the Cresson openpit gold mine in Victor, CO. Bryan Weiskopf and Derek LaLanne with Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining were the hosts for the tour. Weiskopf is manager, community affairs, and LaLanne is purchasing supervisor. AngloGold, through its wholly owned subsidiary, AngloGold North America, holds a 67% interest in Cripple Creek & Victor. The remaining stake is held by Golden Cycle Gold. A $150 million expansion at Cresson will double the size of the leach pad in an effort to boost gold production to 12.4 t (400,000 oz/year) by 2003.
