NEWS RELEASE  May 10, 2006 2006 SME Annual Meeting & Exhibit Reaches New Highs The 2006 SME Annual Meeting & Exhibit and 7th ICARD was held March 26-29, 2006, in St. Louis, Missouri. The meeting theme of “Leadership: Gateway to the Future” was reflected in the more than 70 technical sessions and ICARD poster sessions as well as a sold out exhibit and other timely events. Total attendance reached 3,273 and there were 390 premier industry companies who exhibited at the 2006 event. The exhibit was so successful that 308 exhibit booths were reserved in advance for the 2007 SME Annual Meeting & Exhibit. Other meeting highlights included the Keynote Session, “Strategies for Boom or Bust Periods: Be Careful What You Wish For”. Speakers were: Gord Bogden, National Bank Financial, Canada; Chris Curfman, Caterpillar Global Mining, United States; Errol Muir, Rio Tinto, Australia; and Jerry Pyatt, The Doe Run Co., United States. The session was organized by Ross Bhappu, Resource Capital Funds and moderated by Randy Eppler, Sierra Partners LLC. Specialty programming included Advances in Comminution, Bulk Material Handling by Conveyor Belt , and Functional Fillers and Nanoscale Minerals. Hardbound proceedings of these along with the 2006 technical preprint CD are available for purchase through SME. SME was pleased to host the 7th ICARD in conjunction the its Annual Meeting. ICARD featured 21 technical sessions and more than 100 poster presentations. Other ICARD events included the ICARD dinner, poster session luncheon and field trips. ICARD proceedings are available on CD through SME. SME is now preparing for the 2007 Annual Meeting & Exhibit and 109th National Western Mining Conference, February 25-28, 2007, in Denver, Colorado. The combination of SME and Colorado Mining Association promises another memorable meeting. Mark your calendar.
